Former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola has been disowned by the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC) branch.
This was revealed in a communiqué following a stakeholders’ meeting at the state secretariat in Osogbo on Tuesday by Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, the party chairman.
The former minister of the interior, according to the chair, had formed groups that were actively working against the party’s interests and had engaged in other anti-party acts.
He warned party members against falling for the ex-governor’s registration scam, saying that the group is not officially recognized by the party.
State APC secretary Kamoru Alao, who echoed the chairman’s remarks, said that the party’s online membership registration will begin following the inauguration of the committee responsible for training local trainers by National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
He made it clear that the Omoluabi faction in Osun state is not affiliated with his party, and he urged his faithful party members not to join Aregbesola’s faction.
Aregbesola is no longer an APC member in our opinion here in Osun APC. We anticipate the national secretariat to do what is necessary, as we have taken steps three times to warn them of the distractions from Aregbesola.
However, Abosede Oluwaseun, the Publicity Secretary of the Omoluabi Progressives, denied the anti-party claims made against Aregbesola, stating: “The structure of the APC was intact when Aregbesola passed it to his successor, but that cannot be claimed again years later….
In Aregbesola’s ward in Osun State’s Ilesa East Local Government Area, their plans to suspend him have failed twice.
According to him, the APC is fully focused on retaking the state from the PDP in 2026 and is not sidetracked by any other matters.
