A probable cause document states that a passenger tracked her stolen bags to a guy’s residence in Broward County, leading to a felony grand theft accusation against the man.
Fort Lauderdale resident and junior Geneus Bazile, 29, is facing third-degree grand theft charges.
After being told to get her bags from the baggage belt at Terminal 4, Paola Garcia, a passenger on a Spirit Airlines aircraft that was canceled at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, found out that they were missing on March 3. The pink roller bag that Garcia had with her—full of electronics, jewelry, designer clothes for women, and personal care items—never materialized.
Even though Garcia usually travels with her bag, she felt forced to check in this time. After she waited for her bag for at least two hours, Spirit Airlines told her it had been dispatched to her residence, but it never came. After Garcia set up an electronic tracker to find her belongings, they ping to a Fort Lauderdale address.
Garcia was unable to reach anyone at the address when she went to get her possessions. At the scene, she recorded and photographed multiple bags—none of which belonged to her. The cops advised Garcia against risking her life by facing the incident herself after she dialed 911.
Working at the airport’s Paradies Lagardère Travel Retail store, a detective from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office found that Bazile lived there. The loss prevention manager at the business reviewed the surveillance footage from the incident’s day and determined that Bazile had entered the storage room with a pink roller bag that matched Garcia’s description. The video purports to show Bazile taking the MacBook and other smaller objects out of the bag.
