Despite being granted bail, Chika Nwoba, who is the spokesman for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ebonyi State Chapter, is still languishing in Abakaliki Correctional Centre.
According to koupun, Nwoba’s troubles began in February when he accused Oguzor Offia-Nwali, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, of stealing N3 million intended for empowerment.
In February, he was apprehended when Commissioner Oguzor Offia-Nwali filed a plea for his arrest.
In a string of Facebook posts, Oguzor Offia-Nwali claimed that Mr. Nwoba had slandered him, threatened his life, and made up accusations of fraud and the misappropriation of public funding intended to promote small-scale traders in the state.
Meanwhile, Francis Nwifuru, governor of Ebonyi State, pleaded with Offia-Nwali to exercise mercy and consider dropping the prosecution against Chika Nwoba during a church service last Sunday, after spending two months behind bars.
Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi state, is the location of the subsequent bail hearing.
However, as of the time of reporting this story, koupun learned that Nwoba has still not been released, even though the court granted bail and the governor issued an order.
