133 people in Ilorin, Calabar, Ede and elsewhere arrested by EFCC for alleged online fraud

In three separate locations in the states of Kwara, Cross River, and Osun, 132 individuals are believed to be involved in online fraud, according to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This was revealed in a statement made by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale on Friday in Abuja.

Following actionable intelligence on their suspicious fraudulent operations in their environs, 64 individuals suspected of being cybercriminals were apprehended in Ede, Osun State, according to him.

He listed 18 luxury cars, 18 computers, 112 cell phones, 3 PlayStation games, 5 bikes, and other evidence as being taken from the suspects.

Similarly, 25 individuals were apprehended in two distinct sting operations that took place in different parts of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The move followed credible information on the online fraudsters’ activity in the state. “Six exotic cars, various brands of phones and laptops were recovered from the suspects,” he said.

On Thursday, in the regions of Satellite Town, Tinapa Junction, and Parliamentary Extension of Calabar, Cross River State, 44 individuals were apprehended for alleged fraud, he added.

Among the things retrieved from their possession were 38 cell phones, 16 computers, and six luxury vehicles.

After the investigations are over, he said, all of the suspects will face charges in court.
