The new national anthem, “Arise, O Compatriots,” was something that Teni expressed her displeasure with.

The former anthem brought back a lot of memories for her from her childhood, she said.

“Arise o compatriots, I’ll miss you. Thank you for so many childhood memories,” Teni posted on her X handle. Until our paths cross again, my dear SM.

In 1978, “Arise, O compatriots” was chosen to be the national anthem of Nigeria.

Lyrics were written by P. O. Aderibigbe, Sota Omoigui, B. A. Ogunnaike, Eme Etim Akpan, and John A. Ilechukwu.

Under B. E. Odiasse’s direction, the Nigeria Police Band played the national anthem.
