Soldiers stationed at the Nasarawa region of Kano’s Emir’s palace were not there to execute a court order related to the emirate dispute, according to the Nigerian Army.
During a reaction to reports published by an online newspaper (not LEADERSHIP) on Sunday, May 26, 2024, attributed to the Kano State chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, made the statement. The reports accused the Army of bias in the Kano Emirate saga.
He denied the report and maintained that the military had taken no preventative measures to end the Kano Emiship tussle-related security breaches.
“The prevention of law and order breakdown in the state, which could be exploited by adversarial non-state actors,” the army spokesman stated, emphasizing the topic of utmost concern to the Nigerian Army and other security services.
When the level of danger gets too great for the police to handle, the military will step in immediately.
“Right now, the Army’s only mission is to keep an eye on developments and be ready to respond to any escalation that might jeopardize state and regional security.”
