The Times reports that Manchester City has started a legal battle with the Premier League.
It is City’s intention to have the Associated Party Transaction (ATP) regulations of the Premier League removed.
Commercial and sponsorship transactions with businesses owned or linked with the owners of the same club are largely the focus of ATP regulations.
They state that in order for such deals to be considered valid, an impartial party must determine their fair market worth.
But City thinks the regulations are “unlawful” and the champs claim they’ve been the targets of “discrimination” in a 165-page lawsuit.
Following the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund’s takeover of Newcastle in December 2021, the regulation was enacted.
A two-week arbitration session is scheduled to commence on Monday, June 10, in order to resolve the legal issue.
