Soludo confronts Ajaero on minimum wage, denies instigating other governors

Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, governor of Anambra State, has denied claims made by Comrade Joe Ajaero, president of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), that he was encouraging other governors to reject the N70,000 minimum wage.

During an interview that aired on national television, Comrade Ajaero made the accusation.

Soludo rejected in a statement sent by his press secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime, that his administration in Anambra was anti-workers and listed his many accomplishments on behalf of the state’s workers.

The statement claims that the state government wants to disprove the claims in a very strong way.

Actually, Governor Soludo never once urged or influenced other governors to reject the proposed N70,000 minimum salary.

“The state government of Anambra State has not yet received any letter of notice of industrial action, and the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo has maintained a harmonious relationship with the state’s labor leaders,” the statement read.

Disregarding these accusations, Governor Soludo urged the NLC and other state workers to recognize the many measures and significant accomplishments his administration has made to improve worker welfare and human capital development.

Since it could appear that the NLC leadership is being politically pushed by desperate outside actors to stage a false industrial crisis in Anambra State, he argued that the planned strike was both needless and unhelpful at this point.
