Singer Seyi Vibez of Nigeria has spoken out about his early days of trying to sign with Wizkid’s record label, Starboy Entertainment, and being conned.
He remembered seeing a number of results when he searched for “how to join Starboy Entertainment” on Google. He claimed that after paying N10,000 for the registration form over the phone, the line was disabled.
In a recent interview with Wazobia FM, the ‘Cana’ hitmaker revealed this.
“I went to Google and typed, ‘How to register to Starboy record label.'” Vibez recalled that when he was thirteen years old, he wanted to sign with Starboy. I spotted a number and dialed it; the operator informed me I needed to submit a form payment of N10,000.
After I sent the person N10,000 for my phone, he blocked me. That was how I sold it. He identified himself as the recruitment officer for Wizkid.
I had already committed to attending the screening, performing, and having Wizkid evaluate my work. As a result, I gave in.
He warned aspiring musicians against registering with any record company online.
