The EFCC has severed ties with a group of ex-governors who are currently under investigation for alleged corruption.

“EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion,” the report’s caption reads, and the EFCC has denied the allegations, calling them malicious and unfounded.

The anti-graft agency’s head of media and publicity, Dele Oyewale, called the list a falsehood.

“The EFCC feels compelled to disassociate itself from a phantom report circulating in sections of the media claiming it has released a full list of ex-governors being investigated for alleged corruption,” Oyewale stated.

While one news site ran a story with the headline: “EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion,” the truth is that the Commission has never released such a list or ever discussed investigating former governors with any media outlet.

That the so-called list is an elaborate hoax with ulterior goals known only to its creators is a foregone conclusion.

The report is misleading and full of erroneous information, so the public is asked to disregard it.
To prevent deceiving the public with erroneous and misleading stories, the media should make every effort to verify facts regarding the subjects being investigated with the Commission.
