As the political situation in Rivers State intensifies, LGSC prohibits officers from testifying before the assembly

Members of the 23 LG areas in Rivers State are no longer allowed to appear before the Rivers State Assembly by the Local Government Service Commission.

This was included in a circular that was signed by Ebirieneuket, Nteile, the director of information and communications for the commission, and was delivered to all heads of local government administration.

Staff members who “disobeys or violates the instructions will be dismissed from service accordingly,” as stated in the circular.

“You and all officers of the 23 Local Government Councils in Rivers State are hereby warned not to honor or appear before the Members of Assembly or any group of individuals disguised as an invitation without the authorization of the Acting Chairman—Local Government Service Commission,” the circular reads.

The political instability that has gripped the state may have something to do with this new occurrence, according to koupun.

The confrontation between Sim Fubara, the current governor of Rivers State, and Nyesom Wike, his predecessor, has thrown the political landscape into disarray.

Let us recall that on April 22, the State House of Assembly overrode Fubara’s consent and voted the Rivers State Local Government (Amendment) Bill into law.

The decision was made during the 159th Legislative sitting of the House, which was held at the Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt. Speaker Martin Amaewhule presided over the session.

On Tuesday, the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) urged the assembly to begin the process of impeachment proceedings against Fubara without delay.
