In an effort to speed up the resolution of maritime disputes, the Nigerian Navy has called for the creation of a Special Maritime Court.

This call was made on Friday in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Malam Jibrin Baba-Ndace by Navy Director of Information, Commodore Adams Aliyu, who was representing the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla.

Operation Delta Security has been initiated in Warri to combat oil theft in response to the directive to remove this evil.

Cmdr Aliyu, speaking on behalf of the Chief of Naval Staff, stated: “So far, we have made remarkable progress in arrest, seizure and deactivation of illegal storage tanks and refineries.”

“It is to have a highly motivated and professional naval force capable of shaping the security outcome within Nigeria’s maritime domain and land-based enhancement in fulfilment of our national interest,” Ogalla revealed of his goals for the Nigerian Navy.

I have a vision for how to accomplish this mission: to ensure that Nigeria’s naval forces are well-equipped with professionals who are both competent and ethical, and to use all of our national might to effectively defend our maritime interests from any and all threats.

“Our goal is to ensure the safety of the Gulf of Guinea’s maritime environment so that we can reap the economic benefits of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the blueprint for which was the establishment of the Ministry of Blue Economy.”
